There aren’t many people who don’t enjoy wearing a nice pair of jeans. Jeans are very versatile and can be worn with just about anything and still look fashionable. Jeans can be dressed up by wearing a nice dress shirt and a pair of dress shoes or boots, or they can be worn as part of a comfortable, casual outfit by pairing them up with your favorite t-shirt and athletic shoes.

Jeans can sometimes be quite expensive, with some pairs costing as much as $500 or even more. On the other hand, jeans can also be very inexpensive, and can found for as little as $10 a pair. The burning question is, is buying discount jeans a good or bad idea? Well, in order for this question to be answered, several factors need to be taken into consideration, since not all discount jeans are created equal. One consumer may consider a $30 pair of jeans to be a discount, while another person may consider $30 to be way above her budget. The following factors must be taken into consideration before determining whether buying discount jeans is a good idea:

  • Where are the jeans being purchased? Generally speaking, purchasing jeans from stores such as Family Dollar, Dollar General and similar retailers are definitely “discount.” You could probably very easily nab a pair of jeans for $10 or $12, but unfortunately the quality will likely be very poor and they probably won’t last very long. You could purchase a pair of discount jeans for around $25 or so at a store like JCP or Sears, that are definitely higher quality. You could even find good discount jeans at stores like Wal-mart or K-mart as well, for around $20/pair.
  • What type of jeans do you prefer? If you’re very picky, or you only wear a certain brand of jeans, this could make finding discount jeans more challenging but not impossible. You will just need to watch out for sales, coupons and additional opportunities to purchase your favorite jeans at discounted prices.

Generally speaking, purchasing discount jeans can be a good idea, but of course it depends on where you decide to shop as well as the type of jeans you prefer. If you go to the wrong store, no matter how much of a discount you believe you’re getting, you could completely waste your money.
